Raising money for ‘worthy causes’

Ten teams entered the inaugural “Wrexham AFC Charity Shield Tournament” at NEWI on Saturday with Tetra Pak and Electric 6 (Manweb) qualifying for the penalty shoot-out final. Tetra Pak were comfortable winners and will now get the chance to play a 60 minute, eleven a-side, match on the Racecourse on Saturday July 8th 2006 at the “Fans’ Open Day”. They will play the team which raises the most sponsorship money - to be announced when all sponsorship forms and monies are collected.

Mold Alun School had their name drawn out of the hat and now have the pleasure of selecting one person to play with Wrexham AFC’s first team in a friendly match also arranged for the “Fans’ Open Day”. It is understood that they are thinking of raffling the prize to raise additional money for Nightingale House Hospice, the local Parkinson’s Disease Support Group and Wrexham Football in the Community.

Phil Wyn, who organised the event on behalf of Wrexham Supporters’ Association hopes to raise between £2000 and £2500 for the local ‘worthy causes’ through individual sponsorship. Electric 6’s work colleagues held a cake day at work, Tetra Pak kindly offered to match the money raised by their team and Phil’s employers Nucletron sponsored his team to the tune of £10 a penalty scored; sadly they only scored six goals in total!

The Association will present the 30th Official Player of the Season award at the last home match of the season against Oxford United on April 29th. Look out for details of how to vote for the Player of the Season and the Young Player of the Season on our website Wrexham Dragons and in the Evening Leader later this year. Fans will be able to vote electronically via this website. We will also be presenting our award alongside the Wrexham Supporters’ Trust and the Shropshire Reds’ Player of the Season awards at a very special event at the Lion Quays on May 7th, 2006.

Wrexham AFC Official Supporters’ Association is planning an 80th birthday celebration for Sunday September 10th, 2006. We will mark the occasion by celebrating 30 years of the Official Player of the Season award and will invite all 30 past Players of the Season to this very special day in our history. A general knowledge quiz was held at Llay Miners Welfare on 16th November to raise money for St. Martins of Tours Church, Llay and Wrexham AFC Official Supporters’ Association. This enjoyable evening raised £101 for each organisation.

The question master on this successful night was Welfare manager Alan Parry, who set the questions and organised the whole event! Many thanks to Alan. The next quiz is scheduled for January - look our for further details at Wrexham Dragons.

1/2 Season Ticket Sale

1/2 season tickets are available from the Rochdale match onwards on December 26th. Adult tickets cost £131 for the KOP, £145 for the Sainsbury’s Stand and £157 for the PG Stand. Junior 1/2 season tickets cost just £40 for all parts of the ground.

Wrexham FC reduce ticket prices

Wrexham FC are giving their fans an early Christmas present this year by cutting admission prices to the KOP for the Manfield and Notts County games.

If fans pre-purchase tickets for the Mansfield and Notts County games on December 6th and 10th respectively, they can save up to £4 on the price of a KOP ticket.

Adult tickets are reduced from £14 to £10, senior tickets from £7 to £5 and junior tickets from £5 to £1. For further information contact the ticket office on 01978 262129.

Denis Smith elected to the Hall of Fame

Wrexham Official Supporters’ Association is proud to annouce that Denis Smith has been elected to the Hall of Fame.

Denis will be inaugurated alongside Mickey Thomas, Phil Hardy, Ronnie Hewitt and Sammy McMillan at a very special night at the Centenary Club on October 21, 2005.

Tickets are £10 or £75 for a table of 8. Everyone is welcome to attend this special occasion to mark the contribution of these legends to Wrexham Football Club.

Raising money for Wrexham AFC

Supporting Wrexham AFC since 1926

Did you know that the Official Supporters’ Association will be 80 next year? We’ve been supporting Wrexham AFC since 1926 and have donated over £500,000 to the club over the years. We’ve been there through thick and thin and will continue to support the club whatever happens this season.

As always we’ll be running the popular 50/50 draw, which is administered by Vice Chairman Phil Davies and supported week in week out by our committed ticket sellers. The draw is going from strength to strength and last season we donated money to help the club to pay for day-to-day items as requested.

Did you know that we came up with the idea of raising money for the club in 1991 when the club was in deep financial trouble? Wrexham came close to folding that year, but thanks to the generosity of the fans we raised over £60,000 to keep the club running - a lot of money in those days.
